My Story
My name is Tara Anderson and I write because I believe that there is always room for more kindness in our world. Growing up, I was a bookish introverted kid who found a lifeline in writing. I discovered friendships on pages of my favourite books and I soon found that I could use writing as a tool to empower myself and others.
My love for storytelling allowed me to raise my voice above all of the noise that surrounded me. It gave me the confidence I needed to speak up and spread the message of inclusion, acceptance and belonging to children just like me. Tara Anderson Books is the realization of a dream that was born when I was only twelve years old, and I am so happy to be able to share it now.

When I look around at the events taking place in the world, I realize that the need to cultivate kindness is more important now than ever. If we can teach children the value of empathy from a young age, the hope is that they will grow up to be kind, world-changing adults. I believe that one of the best ways to teach empathy is through stories that allow readers to connect to characters on an emotional level. By putting themselves in the characters’ shoes, children will learn to recognize and consider others’ feelings as clearly as their own.
My first children’s book “You Belong Too” was written for children between the ages of 5 and 8 years. This is a pivotal age in childhood where habits and attitudes are established. It was composed to inspire parents, grandparents, teachers, caregivers and, most importantly, children, to discover their self-worth by empowering them to act kindly, creatively and with courage every day.
